However, he said, frenzied hiring will give way to a more temperate intake of fresh talent. Some industry insiders said even as hiring may go up compared to last year, companies will be circumspect about over-hiring freshers as there is a widespread anticipation that the US market may play spoilsport.

While a few including Zomato, Indus Insights and ProcMart said their campus hiring targets had gone up compared to last year, others including Razorpay, Simplilearn, CashKaro and NoBroker indicated that their numbers would be flat or lower.

About 64% of Indian employers covered in the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, shared exclusively with ET, said they will recruit more people in the coming quarter, while 10% see a decrease in hiring intent and 24% expect to keep workforce levels steady. Only 2% were unsure about hiring intentions. Hiring markets in India are ranked first in the Asia-Pacific Middle-East (APME) region, 24 points above the global average.
